I had the day off today, so I decided to cook something. I called a few people and had an impromptu dinner party.
Bob brought his latest favorite vodka: Zubrovka, flavored with bison grass. It was too strong and odd tasting for me to drink straight, but I liked it with some tonic and lime.
I wanted to use the golden whitefish caviar I picked up on Saturday, but I couldn’t locate the salad recipe I wanted to make. I found a recipe for Wild Rice Cakes with Caviar and it was great. The nuttiness of the rice complemented the caviar perfectly. I’m also thinking this would make a great (and less expensive) appetizer when made with salmon lox instead of caviar.
For the main course I made my favorite lamb dish: Lamb with Miso Sauce. A simple roasted rack of lamb accompanied with an amazing salty-sweet sauce made from miso paste, soy sauce, mirin and blue cheese. I know it sounds strange, but everyone who tries it loves it—even those who “don’t like lamb”. On the side, I served Wasabi Mashed Potatoes and green beans in a balsamic vinaigrette.
Dessert was King Leo peppermint bark and purchased almond and apricot filled cookies. Mmmm.
I love lamb and yours looks so juicy and beautiful. Wasabi Mashed Potatoes. Oh how I love thee! ;-) Good job!
I heart lamb too—although I may have found my new favorite meat up in Vancouver: Wild Boar. It was on the menu in quite a few places and it was DELICIOUS!
Can me and my husband be your friends? I love impromtu lamb dinners!!
Yes, lamb dinners are so very good!
